Who Should Attend:

Personnel expected to perform in a management capacity in an expanding incident that may require a higher level of NIMS/ICS training.

Course Overview:

Enhance your Incident Command skills, with a special focus on new concepts of the Incident Command System (ICS). The training and resources provided in this course will assist personnel who require advanced application of the ICS. The course will also benefit any person who has a responsibility to function in a command post managing an expanding incident.

You will participate in group activities that introduce the development of the Incident Action Plan (IAP) and demonstrate the interactions between the Command and General Staff sections of the ICS.

Learning Objectives:

  • How the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Command and Management component supports the management of expanding incidents
  • The incident/event management process for supervisors and expanding incidents as prescribed by the Incident Command System (ICS)
  • Implementing the incident management process at a simulated incident
  • Developing an Incident Action Plan (IAP) for a simulated incident 
To receive credit for the course, participants must do the following:
  • Pass the written test with a score of 70% or greater
  • Participate in the course activities and exercises
  • Attend at least 80% of the course
  • All persons attending the IM/UC course are required to have completed the course prerequisites – ICS 100, ICS 200, IS 700, and IS 80

  • IS-100.b, FEMA Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS-100
  • IS-200.b, FEMA Incident Command System for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents, ICS-200
  • IS-700.a, Introduction to the National Incident Management System (NIMS)
  • IS-800.b, National Response Framework (NRF), An Introduction

Additional Requirements:

A Federal Student Identification (SID) is required for each student. To obtain a Federal Student Identification (SID) number:

  • Step 1: To register, go to https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid.
  • Step 2: Click on the "Need a FEMA SID" box on the right side of the screen.
  • Step 3: Follow the instructions and provide the necessary information to create your account.
  • Step 4: You will receive an email with your SID number. Please print the SID number and save it in a secure location.
  • Step 5: Be sure to bring your SID login information to class.
Special Note: If you are from outside of the United States there is additional documentation that needs to be completed and submitted to the Department of Homeland Security. The approval process takes four to six weeks. If you are not a United States citizen, please contact Jenny Keesey at jennifer@nwppa.org or (360) 901-3131 to request the forms.

All TEEX NIMS/ICS instructors are certified Department of Homeland Security NIMS/ICS instructors and meet/exceed all requirements needed to teach the MGT905 course.

Course Schedule:

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the first day; the class will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on days one and two, and from 8 a.m. to noon on day three. Lunch will be provided on the first two days; morning and afternoon breaks will be provided each day.
