Course Overview:

Boards have ultimate responsibility for ensuring and evaluating the long-term health of the organization. They help fulfill this duty through strategic thinking; identifying goals through strategic planning and authorizing the appropriate allocation of resources through the adoption of financial policies, budget review, and approval; and monitoring management’s progress toward strategic goals. This course teaches directors how to participate effectively in strategic thinking and planning processes.

Course Topics:

  • The difference between strategic thinking and strategic planning
  • Analyzing your cooperative’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
  • Recognizing the board’s oversight responsibility
  • Using the strategic plan in the annual evaluation of the cooperative’s accomplishments and as the foundation of the CEO’s performance appraisal

Course Schedule:

Registration will begin at 8 am, and the class will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lunch, as well as morning and afternoon breaks, will be provided.

Member and Non-member Early Bird (ends 5/28/2019): $500
Member and Non-member Standard: $575

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations are accepted, with full refund, if request is made at least 30 days prior to the course. Within 30 days, fees are as follows: 15-29 days, $100; 1-14 days or "no show," 100 percent of registration fee. When possible, please send a substitute instead of canceling. NWPPA does not charge a fee for substitutions.

Continuing Hours:

This course qualifies for six continuing hours. Certificates are issued upon full completion of the course.
