Who Should Attend:

Risk managers, general managers, CEOs, CFOs, policymakers, and anyone involved in the risk management function of their utility.

Webinar Overview:

Enterprise risk management (ERM) is the discipline of examining the impact of potential financial, operational, regulatory, environmental, legal, safety, and reputation risks on an organization. We often talk about how risk information can inform strategy, tactics, compliance, audit, financing, and operational processes; but, fundamentally, the most critical reason for risk management is to help an organization plan for a major risk event.

Under normal circumstances, the risk manager serves in a planning- and information-gathering role to help an organization identify risks, rank risks, manage risks, and monitor risks. While most U.S companies have considered the risk of a pandemic, this is the first time in recent history that they have had to grapple with the reality of it. Now that we are experiencing an actual pandemic event, the question that needs to be explored is: what is a risk manager’s role during a serious risk event?

This interactive 90-minute webinar will investigate what a risk manager can do in reaction to the COVID-19 outbreak––as well as prepare for a possible second or third wave––through lecture, Q&A, an assignment, and group discussion of the assignment.

Webinar Objectives:

This course will focus on the various roles a risk manager can play during––and right after––a major risk event such as a pandemic. Those roles include:

  • Be in the war room
  • Plan for the next wave
  • Share experiences and ideas with peers at other utilities
  • Develop a plan for a second wave

Webinar Format:

Please be prepared to ask questions and share ideas with your peers. For approximately the first hour, the webinar will cover material prepared by the instructor, coupled with interactive polling and Q&A. The last 30 minutes will be used to complete an exercise, followed by peer discussion. The exercise will be provided prior to the webinar. Registered attendees will have access to the slides for the session.

Approximately one week following the session, there will be a 60-minute follow-up webinar for registered attendees that are interested in re-grouping with the instructor and other attendees for further discussion and questions. This follow-up session is included in the webinar registration fee. NWPPA will endeavor to schedule a time that is convenient for attendees and the instructor.
