Credit and Collections Issues Workshop
Date(s):
April 1, 2025
Venue:Northwest Public Power Association
Description:Who Should Attend:
Customer and member service representatives and anyone who wants to understand the latest credit and collections best practices.
Overview:
Past-due balances are becoming an increasing concern as electric ratepayers continue to adjust to the impact of inflation on their household budgets. Energy costs are rising along with other expenses, and the culmination of the increases means more ratepayers are finding their finances stretched.
For utilities, collecting the revenue billed is important. If ratepayer bills go unpaid, the rates of others are impacted to some degree. Additionally, uncollected revenue creates cash flow challenges for the utility, straining its finances.
This one-day workshop demonstrates how to take a data-driven approach to analyzing accounts receivable processes, policies, procedures, and metrics. You will also explore other quantitative strategies for effectively managing the accounts receivable of your utility.
Topics:
Assessing a ratepayer's energy burden.
Using assumptions in analyzing metrics.
Setting clear billing terms.
Assessing the billing cycle of your utility.
Determining the key performance indicators for collections
Identifying payment options.
Communicating clear timelines and expectations with ratepayers.
Managing credit approvals.
Responding to late payments.
