Who Should Attend:

Directors, policy makers and general managers. This event is a pre-conference class for the ORECA Annual Meeting, but is open to all.

Course Overview:

In this class, board members will consider common board room decisions and how these decisions impact the cooperative's financial strength. In one day, attendees will cover a year's worth of key financial decisions and how they affect the cooperative's equity position. Concepts will be reinforced through practical and strategic exercises designed to give attendees a theoretical understanding that he/she can apply to situations at their own co-op.

Course Topics:

  • Explain the purpose and function of key financial statements (balance sheet, statement of cash flows, statement of operations).
  • Apply a process for determining a board's philosophy regarding key financial metrics (TIER, Equity, MDSC).
  • Analyze the impact of boardroom decisions (plant growth, construction, etc.) and tradeoffs between key financial areas (e.g., rates, equity and capital credits).
  • Communicate clear guidance to the CEO regarding financial decisions.

Course Schedule:

Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m., and the course will run from 1-5 p.m. on the first day, and from 8 a.m. to noon on the second day. Morning and afternoon refreshment breaks will be provided.

Member and non-member cooperative rate: $395

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations are accepted, with full refund, if request is made at least 30 days prior to the course. Within 30 days, fees are as follows: 15-29 days, $100; 1-14 days or "no show," 100 percent of registration fee. When possible, please send a substitute instead of canceling. NWPPA does not charge a fee for substitutions.

Continuing Hours:

This event is part of the NRECA Board Leadership Certificate Program.

This course also qualifies for 6 continuing hours. Certificates are issued upon full completion of the course.
