Accounting staff and anyone who wants to understand how each role in the utility impacts the budget and financial statement.
Course Overview:
This one-and-a-half-day course will take you through the fundamentals of FERC/RUS accounting and provide practical examples you can use in your utility. You will learn how to research and learn these fundamentals from the source document rather than from "we’ve always done it that way." You will learn skills that help your utility’s system achieve financial security and long-term benefits for members in a language that all employees can understand.
The course concludes with a discussion of employees' participation in the financial health of the utility. Budgeting, cash flow, and the importance of tracking expenses are highlighted. At the completion of the workshop, you will have a more complete understanding of your personal impact on your system’s financial success. You will also be able to utilize online tools in researching FERC/RUS accounting and construction practices of utilities.

Analysis of the financial reports (balance sheets, statements of operations)
Billing (accounts receivable turnover, write-offs, delinquency)
Plant accounting (inventory, engineering and operations, work order procedures)
Financial management (equity changes, capital credits, TIER, DSC, general funds, cash management, capitalization ratio, cost-of-service study, equity management, capital credits, legal challenges, allocation, retirement pros and cons)
Member services (marketing, communications)

Note: Organizations that register a group of employees will receive every fifth registration for free. For example, if you register five employees, you only pay for four; register 10 employees, you only pay for eight; and so on. There is nothing additional you need to do to receive this discount.
Cancellation Policies:
For webinars, virtual classes, and section meetings: cancellation at least five days prior to the event, full refund; within 1-4 days or no show, 100% of the registration fee.
For in-person events: cancellation at least 30 days prior to the event, full refund; within 15-29 days, $100 fee; and within 1-14 days or no show, 100% of the registration fee.
If canceling because the attendee is showing COVID-19 symptoms any time before the event, a full refund will be issued; if leaving during the event for COVID-19 reasons, a prorated refund will be issued.
