Overview:
Social media policies should cover a lot more than simply saying employees shouldn't visit inappropriate websites. This webinar will explore what should and should not be included in a social media policy and how to ensure employees understand how it applies to them. Key areas of focus will include alignment with other organizational policies and collective bargaining agreements; compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and the First Amendment; take-down protocols; and more. We'll also explore who owns an employees' social media accounts and what happens when they leave the organization. All this and more will be covered to equip you with the knowledge you need to ensure social media compliance and protect all stakeholders effectively.
Objectives:
- Identify the many types and uses of social media.
- Articulate the importance of a robust social media policy that aligns with internal/industry policies and legal requirements.
- Appreciate the nuances of social media use in different workplace settings (unionized/non-unionized, public/private sector).
- Explain the legal obligations associated with social media use, including:
- First Amendment rights regarding freedom of speech.
- National Labor Relations Act and similar state and local laws.
- Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Fair Credit and Reporting Act.
- Copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets.
- Right of publicity.
- Advocate for the creation and implementation of user-friendly yet legally sound social media policies.
- Assist in the use, maintenance, and monitoring of organizational social media and understand take-down criteria.
- Implement best practices for recruiting via social media.
- Understand the concept of digital legacy and the ownership of social media accounts and content.

The webinar will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. Pacific Time. Attendees will be admitted 15 minutes before the webinar begins.

Instructions will be emailed to attendees within 12 hours of the webinar, and we recommend that you test the link to the meeting as soon as you get the instructions. The webinar is best viewed using Chrome as your browser. We recommend that you use a landline for both your phone and your internet connections.
This registration is for one person to attend. We manage our webinars on an honor-system basis; if more than one person from a utility wishes to attend, each is to register separately.

Associate Member Rate: $135
Non-Member Rate: $180
Note: Organizations that register a group of employees will receive every fifth registration for free. For example, if you register five employees, you only pay for four; register 10 employees, you only pay for eight; and so on. There is nothing additional you need to do to receive this discount.
Cancellation Policy:
For webinars, virtual classes, and section meetings: cancellations at least five days prior to the event will receive a full refund; within 1-4 days or no show, the charge will be 100% of the registration fee.
For in-person events: cancellations at least 30 days prior to the event will receive a full refund; within 15-29 days there will be a $100 fee; and within 1-14 days or no show, the charge will be 100% of the registration fee.

Continuing Hours:
