Who Should Attend:

Anyone who needs to write job descriptions for positions, including board members, utility managers, and human resources staff.

Course Overview:

Job descriptions are one of the most important components of team development and workforce management within every organization. We use them to identify and select qualified candidates; hold employees accountable to performance standards; and make critical decisions about workforce planning and job duty assignments. Job descriptions also outline the scope of job duties for would-be candidates, selected employees, and even supervisors who manage the team. To be truly effective, they should be clear, practical, and responsive to the needs of the organization.

Job descriptions can be time consuming to prepare, complicated to write, and tricky to use when performance issues arise; sometimes it is easier to use a generic form and hope for the best. Unfortunately, when an employee seeks an accommodation or is injured on the job, hoping for the best may not be enough. Attend this interactive and informative program to learn how to develop and write legally compliant, powerhouse job descriptions.

Course Objectives:

During this course, you will learn:

  • The different roles job descriptions play within your organization
  • The legal implications surrounding job descriptions, including the impact of the ADA interactive process and reasonable accommodation
  • Essential and non-essential functions, and how to determine what tasks really matter
  • Using job descriptions to attract top talent and conduct more productive candidate interviews
  • How to write effective, ADA-compliant job descriptions
  • Strategies that will increase the effectiveness of your job descriptions
