Supervisors, general managers, board and commission members, human resources professionals, customer service personnel, and anyone who wants to understand the complexities of handling workplace privacy issues.
Overview:
Although privacy is an evolving concern in today’s workplace, understanding the legal requirements around it can be akin to piecing together a patchwork quilt. With various laws governing recruitment, medical inquiries, monitoring, and more, it's crucial to understand where the boundaries lie. In this webinar, you will explore workplace privacy, learn what is and is not permissible, and look at evolving issues impacting privacy.
Objectives:
- Understand what the U.S. Constitution (First, Fourth, Fifth, and 14th amendments) says about privacy and how the courts interpret it in relation to the workplace.
- Explore the concept of invasion of privacy and the balancing tests and exceptions courts use to assess violations of privacy concepts such as reasonable expectation of privacy, intrusion into seclusion, etc.
- Be empowered to support your organization in understanding employer defenses and remedies available for invasion of privacy claims.
- Differentiate between privacy obligations in the private and public sectors.
- Grasp the implications of employment-at-will on employee privacy rights.
- Develop a sensitivity to emerging privacy issues, such as advancements in biometric technologies, and prepare to address future challenges proactively.
