Any electric utility industry employee (utility or vendor) whose job performance will benefit from a basic understanding of the operations side of the utility business, including engineering, operations, safety, purchasing, information technology, regulatory and rates, customer service, public relations, legal, accounting, utility commissioners, and board members.

Course Overview:

This popular one-day course presents a clear understanding of the technical heartbeat of the utility by providing employees with a comprehensive understanding of electric utility system operations, including generation (fossil fuel, hydro, and nuclear generation), transmission, and distribution (down to 120V/240V residential connections). You will learn how all key pieces of equipment in the system are built, how the equipment operates, and how the equipment functions in the overall operations of a utility system. The course assumes no electrical background and builds on the basics to provide a comprehensive understanding of the equipment and operation of the electric utility system.

Course Schedule:

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. Mountain Time, and the class will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lunch, as well as morning and afternoon breaks, will be provided.

Note: Organizations that register a group of employees will receive every fifth registration for free. For example, if you register five employees, you only pay for four; register 10 employees, you only pay for eight; and so on. There is nothing additional you need to do to receive this discount.

Cancellation Policies:

For webinars, virtual classes, and section meetings: cancellation at least five days prior to the event, full refund; within 1-4 days or no show, 100% of the registration fee.

For in-person events: cancellation at least 30 days prior to the event, full refund; within 15-29 days, $100 fee; and within 1-14 days or no show, 100% of the registration fee.

If canceling because the attendee is showing COVID-19 symptoms any time before the event, a full refund will be issued; if leaving during the event for COVID-19 reasons, a prorated refund will be issued.

When possible, please send a substitute instead of canceling; NWPPA does not charge a fee for substitutions.
