Essential Skills for New Supervisors

Overview:
This two-and-a-half-day program is designed to transform new and emerging leaders into confident, effective supervisors who can lead teams and navigate the unique challenges of public power utilities. The program is more than just theory—it's a hands-on, interactive experience that will provide the tools you need to succeed immediately. Through a blend of real-world scenarios, group discussions, and case studies, you will gain practical insights into leading teams with confidence and clarity.
Following the in-person program, participants will meet in three virtual facilitated coaching sessions to support ongoing learning and foster peer support. The virtual sessions will be 2-3:30 p.m. Pacific Time on Sept. 4, Sept. 18, and Oct. 2, 2025.
Agenda Highlights:
- Day 1: Laying the foundation
- Morning: Understand the role of a supervisor—what it truly means to step into leadership and how to balance technical skills with people management.
- Afternoon: Develop strong interpersonal communication skills, so supervisors can effectively connect with their teams, foster collaboration, and maintain clear lines of communication.
- Day 2: Leading in practice
- Morning: Learn the art of delegation and giving constructive feedback that encourages growth without undermining confidence.
- Afternoon: Explore ways to manage conflict and disputes in the workplace before they impact team dynamics and productivity.
- Day 3: Coaching for growth
- Morning: Examine the G.R.O.W. coaching model, which enables supervisors to not only lead but also to mentor and guide their teams toward professional development.

Schedule:
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Pacific Time on the first day. The course will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the first two days and from 8:30 a.m. to noon the third day. A light breakfast and snacks will be provided each day, and lunch will be provided the first two days.

Note: Organizations that register a group of employees will receive every fifth registration for free. For example, if you register five employees, you only pay for four; register 10 employees, you only pay for eight; and so on. There is nothing additional you need to do to receive this discount.
Cancellation Policy:
For webinars, virtual classes, and section meetings: cancellations at least five days prior to the event will receive a full refund; within 1-4 days or no show, the charge will be 100% of the registration fee.
For in-person events: cancellations at least 30 days prior to the event will receive a full refund; within 15-29 days there will be a $100 fee; and within 1-14 days or no show, the charge will be 100% of the registration fee.

Continuing Hours:
