Course Overview:
This popular two-day course presents a clear understanding of the technical heartbeat of the utility by providing employees with a comprehensive understanding of electric utility system operations, including generation (fossil fuel, hydro, and nuclear generation), transmission, and distribution (down to 120V/240V residential connections). You will learn how all key pieces of equipment in the system are built, how the equipment operates, and how the equipment functions in the overall operations of a utility system. The course assumes no electrical background and builds on the basics to provide a comprehensive understanding of the equipment and operation of the electric utility system.
Course Objectives:
In addition to the above, the course will also cover:
- Demand and load curves
- System frequency
- Wheeling
- Load shedding and outages
- Power and demand factors
- System and equipment protection
- Safety, including step and touch potential

Course Schedule:
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. on day one, and the course will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both days. Lunch, along with morning and afternoon breaks, will be provided.

Shuttle service
is available to and from The Heathman Lodge and The Portland International
Airport from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the cost of $15 per person per trip. Ten-day
advanced reservations are required; same-day shuttle requests cannot be
guaranteed but will be accommodated on an availability basis. For reservations,

Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations are accepted, with full refund, if request is made at least 30 days prior to the course. Within 30 days, fees are as follows: 15-29 days, $100; 1-14 days or "no show," 100 percent of registration fee. When possible, please send a substitute instead of canceling. NWPPA does not charge a fee for substitutions.
Continuing Hours:
This course qualifies for 12 continuing hours. Certificates are issued upon full completion of the course.
