Drone Workshop Webinar Series: All Seven Webinars, June 17-December 16, 2020

Webinar Overview:

Through this monthly series of presentations, leading experts will discuss the use of drones and the value they can add to your organization today. There is no need to wait for future advancements. The future is now.

The commercial adoption of drones is growing quickly, and public power utilities are no exception. Drones provide a practical solution for the inspection of transmission and distribution lines, as well as substations. Drones support business efforts to avoid hazardous man-hours; reduce costs for maintenance, inspections, and repairs; and minimize downtime. Ground crews, lineworkers, plant managers, and engineers have all found value by bringing a drone into their utility. Organizations are also using drones and providing actionable inspection data on thousands of utility poles and towers across the United States.

Federal regulations, such as the current restrictions on flying drones beyond the visual line of sight (BVLOS), are a common topic of discussion in the industry. Some organizations are already testing BVLOS operations. Certainly the use of drones in T&D will grow even faster as regulations are loosened and better airspace management and waiver application tools become available.

Webinar Topics:

  • Using procedures developed from both general and industry-specific guidelines
  • Products and elements to avoid
  • Using cleaning measures that will not affect field performance or cause long-term damage
  • Following checklists
