Course Overview:

Managing customer service operations is challenging when employees have unscheduled or long-term absences and when operational emergencies occur. Participants will explore multiple solutions/alternatives (short-term and long-term) when staffing shortages occur in their utilities.

Course Topics:

  • The Problem/Challenge: participants’ challenges, observations, issues
  • Types of Absences and the Average Duration of Each Shortage Scenario
  • Short Term Solutions/Sources for Work Coverage During Staff Shortages
  • Long Term Organizational Solutions for Work Coverage During Staff Shortages
  • Next Steps for Me and My Utility
  • Next Opportunities for Shared Utility Initiatives

Participants should bring a summary of their work group absences in 2016, according to position, as well as the reasons for the absences.
