Workshop Overview:

This one-and-a-half-day workshop will provide instruction and lead you in the development or updating of the avian protection plan for your electric utility. The main focus of the workshop will be to cover each topic below with time after each topic for attendees to work on a draft of their own utility’s plan. In addition to having time to work on individual plans, the class will discuss each section of the plan for any best practices.

Workshop Objectives:

This hands-on workshop is intended to provide you with the knowledge to develop or update your APP plan and then move to implement it. This will be done using your sample plan and drafting or updating it.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction of avian protection
  • Corporate policy
  • Permit/regulatory compliance
  • Management guidelines
  • Mortality reduction measures
  • Reporting and record keeping
  • Quality control
  • Training
  • Public awareness
  • Avian enhancement
  • Key resources
  • Standards
  • Risk assessment

Required: Each attendee must bring the most current APP from his or her utility. If your utility does not have an APP, please bring a sample plan. If you do not have a sample plan, the instructor will provide a copy of the Avian Protection Guidelines that includes examples for you to work with.

Workshop Schedule:

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. on day one; the class will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on day one, and 8:30 a.m. to noon on day two. Lunch will be provided on the first day; morning and afternoon breaks will be provided both days.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations are accepted, with full refund, if request is made at least 30 days prior to the course. Within 30 days, fees are as follows: 15-29 days, $100; 1-14 days or "no show," 100 percent of registration fee. When possible, please send a substitute instead of canceling. NWPPA does not charge a fee for substitutions.

Continuing Hours:

This workshop qualifies for nine continuing hours. Certificates are issued upon full completion of the workshop.
