Webinar Schedule:

The webinars will be held from 10 a.m. - noon PST on May 12, 19, and 26. Attendees will be admitted 15 minutes before the webinar begins.

Webinar Overview:

This three-part course is intended to demystify the electric rate-setting process and leave you with a deeper understanding of how to utilize your rates to set up financially sustainable utilities in uncertain times. The course will review high-level concepts and steps involved in a rate study process. You will review key tools and policies available to utilities to ensure stability, equity, and long-term sustainability in rate setting. You will receive an example toolkit to assist with developing a financial forecast and evaluating changes in key financial variables back at your utility.

Establishing Resilient Revenues in Uncertain Times

    1. Understand the general process and purpose of utility rate making
    2. Identify key principles that drive sound financial management
    3. Identify financial planning key variables and strategies
    4. Understand the importance of load in financial planning
    5. Learn to develop a multi-year financial tool to calculate and communicate impacts of changing variables

Rate Equity: Are You Paying Your Share?

    1. Understand the importance of AMI data in the cost of service process
    2. Understand the differences and benefits of bundled versus unbundled rate setting
    3. Understand how allocation factors are developed and used for assigning cost shares
    4. Review alternative cost allocation techniques
    5. Understand the impacts of your cost of service decisions

The “Art” of Rate Making

    1. Establish rate structure prioritization processes
    2. Evaluate traditional and emerging rate structure trends
    3. Explore new structure possibilities through AMI
    4. Learn the key levers that can be utilized through rate design to enhance revenue stability
    5. Identify best ways to test new structure impacts before implementation

How to Participate:

Instructions will be emailed to attendees within 12 hours of the webinar and we recommend that you test the link to the meeting as soon as you get the instructions. This registration is for one person to attend. We manage our webinars on an honor-system basis; if more than one person from a utility wishes to attend, each is to register separately.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations are accepted with a full refund as follows:

For webinars and virtual classes, if the request is made at least five days prior to the course, then 100% of the registration fee will be refunded.

For in-person events, the following fee structure applies: cancellation at least 30 days prior to the event, full refund; within 15-29 days, $100 fee; and within 1-14 days or no show, 100% of the registration fee. When possible, please send a substitute instead of canceling because NWPPA does not charge a fee for substitutions.
