Overview:
This course explores the fundamental responsibilities of board service, including the duties of loyalty, obedience, and due care. During this course, you will gain essential knowledge and skills to fulfill your role effectively, whether you are a director, commissioner, or CEO/general manager. Competencies covered include protocol and practices, policy development, board accountability, the board/manager relationship, risk management and oversight, industry principles and concept, cooperative principles and practices, member focus, self-awareness/continual learning, respect and appreciation of differences, and integrity and courage.
National Rural Electric Cooperative Association members can also apply this course toward the Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate, but NRECA membership is not required to attend.
Topics:
- An overview of today's multi-billion-dollar electric utility business.
- The concepts and values that govern cooperatively owned businesses and related types of organizations.
- Legal and regulatory concepts affecting public utilities.
- Key legal documents such as articles of incorporation and bylaws.
- The role of management and guidelines for maintaining an effective relationship with the CEO.

Note: Organizations that register a group of employees will receive every fifth registration for free. For example, if you register five employees, you only pay for four; register 10 employees, you only pay for eight; and so on. There is nothing additional you need to do to receive this discount.
Cancellation Policy:
For webinars, virtual classes, and section meetings: cancellations at least five days prior to the event will receive a full refund; within 1-4 days or no show, the charge will be 100% of the registration fee.
For in-person events: cancellations at least 30 days prior to the event will receive a full refund; within 15-29 days there will be a $100 fee; and within 1-14 days or no show, the charge will be 100% of the registration fee.

Continuing Hours:
