Who Should Attend:

Directors, policy makers, and general managers. This event is a pre-conference class for the ORECA Annual Meeting, but is open to all.

Course Overview:

This class will take the form of an interactive scenario modeling the meeting of an electric cooperative board. The workshop is based upon adult learning principles and is highly interactive. Brush up on your skills using tried and true rules to make the most of your meetings and produce the best outcome for your utility.

The topics to be covered include:

  • Best practices for running cooperative board meetings using Robert’s Rules
  • Authority, roles, and responsibilities of board members and staff
  • Introduction to the system of motions
  • Improving discussion to make better decisions
  • Dealing with difficult issues and individuals
  • Best practices for taking public comment

Materials include custom handouts to support the learning process and a copy of Mastering Council Meetings: A Guidebook for Elected Officials and Local Government.

Course Schedule:

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the class will run from 8 a.m. to noon. A refreshment break will be provided.

Member and Non-member Cooperative Early Bird (extended through 11/05/2019): $270
Member and Non-member Cooperative Standard: $345

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations are accepted, with full refund, if request is made at least 30 days prior to the course. Within 30 days, fees are as follows: 15-29 days, $100; 1-14 days or "no show," 100 percent of registration fee. When possible, please send a substitute instead of canceling. NWPPA does not charge a fee for substitutions.

Continuing Hours:

This course qualifies for three continuing hours. Certificates are issued upon full completion of the course.
